There has been added services relating to the 2-Factor-Authentication (2FA) in SingPass via SMS at from Jan 7, 2018 at all SingPass counters.

The added service will allow SingPass holders to complete both SingPass password reset and SMS 2FA activation. However, for those who opt for the SingPass One Key Token, holders would still have to visit Assurity Trusted Solutions (Assurity) as it would still be provided by them.

Constituency Management Executive of Tanjong Pagar – Tiong Bahru Constituency Office Miss Angela Tung Wei Yan in her opinion, felt that this would minimize the inconvenience of having SingPass holders to travel to two different venues to conduct their transactions.

Previously, the route for some of the new Singpass holders would have them going to a SingPass counter and then to one of Assurity’s 2FA counters at International Plaza.

A local resident Shakir Othman, an Experience Designer at Telepod shared his opinion of the long route for Singpass.

Mr Shakir said: “I just think it is not fair for anyone to travel that much just to check their CPF statements, especially so for the elderly. It just makes more sense to hunker all of the services related to SingPass to one venue.”

According to The National Archives of Singapore, there are 352 elderly Singaporeans with active SingPass accounts in last year and out of those accounts, 110 senior citizens have not enabled their 2FA. They may have a harder time trying to cope with SingPass and the 2FA services. Selected community clubs and centres, under People’s Association, have been doing their part to assist with any issues that seniors may encounter with SingPass.

Miss Tung shared that, “Generally a lot of the senior residents depend a lot on community clubs to complete their 2FA. We are like a one stop centre for them to seek assistance. We will try to assist their enquiries with whatever knowledge or information we have on hand.”
